Dear Member

Probably a bit late in the day but may I extend my very best wishes for another New Year.

The time certainly goes by as I first attended the Club in 1972, having been invited by a Bill Home RIBA who amongst other things was a redoubtable Scottish Architect and a Director of the Kennel Club. We then met at the Connaught Rooms which had been the Club’s home from time immemorial, but with a noticeable lack of its refurbishment we moved from various homes to settle at the RAF Club some seven years ago.

It is felt that the RAF Club provides an excellent venue for our purposes and that we receive extremely good value, despite their costs increasing at the beginning of 2008 and hence we needed to raise our overall charge. When we have a good attendance they always give us exclusive use of the Ground Floor Bar to the detriment of their members. I would like to thank Squadron Leader Peter Carr and Squadron Leader John Miles for enabling our presence. The Ballroom, with a maximum seating of 110, seems to suit us very well other than when we are over subscribed which has happened in the last two years.

Towards the end of 2007 we tried to think of ways of increasing Membership and I contacted the Chairman of Property Peoples Network an organisation to which I belong. The Chairman came to us in October and December last year, was very impressed, and has suggested that we form a website link so that we are aware of each others activities. Most of their meetings have a property bias and normally they have a Spring Lunch with Speaker, a lunch at the House of Lords, a Golf Day and two or more trips out such as tour over Battersea Power Station, tour of St Pancras Station prior to opening, similar tour of the new Wembley etc etc.  I can see no harm in a link as we may attract new members and we may find things of interest in PPN events. I have suggested that they may wish to take a table of ten at our March Meeting. Obviously if we look like being over subscribed at any meeting then LCC Members come first.

Throughout 2008 we had probably the best attendance figures for a long while and let’s hope that the enthusiasm continues. We have a good choice of Speakers for 2009 and are putting together our 2010 meetings. If anyone has any comments, suggestions, ideas as to Speakers or criticisms, then please let us know.

Best wishes,

Alan Green
